Street Preacher Fails Again
What’s up Heathens! Today we are continuing our conversation with Street Preacher Joe. Joe feels like questioning the historicity of the Bible and Jesus is nonsense. We are here to enlighten him and ourselves a little bit.
So we start off today trying to figure out why Street Preacher Joe went from atheist to bat-shit-crazy street preacher. Apparently, he saw “atheist propaganda” videos about how Jesus is an exact copy of Horus. There have been some fringe mythicist videos out there that border on the crazy. They regularly disregard information to fit their narrative. I totally understand why Joe was dissuaded by these videos and research. While there are similarities between Horus and Jesus, Jesus is not a copy of Horus. Jesus embodies similar plot points and ideas that Horus also exemplifies but that is the only way they are similar.
From the Horus discussion, we move onto Jesus’ crucifixion. He believes the old testament foretells Jesus being crucified in Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Of Course, first-century Jews interpreted this to be a prophecy of Jesus being crucified. This is ridiculous because nowhere in the Psalm does it describe crucifixion. He says that the crucifixion is described in joints being out of socket but that can happen in any number of ways.
I try to give him a better example of the Descent of Inanna where Inanna is crucified by being hung by a hook on a wall. He argues that the first crucifixion occurred in 500 BCE but crucifixion came in many forms other than the cross. I tried to point out how Inanna was a diety that suffered a passion, died, and rose 3 days later to bring salvation. This is only to show that they were common themes for Gods.
He Fails on Paul
I also try to tell him how Paul didn’t actually see Jesus on earth but he was a ghost. He thinks that Jesus physically rose and that Paul saw him on earth despite the fact that Paul specifically states that “the gospel I preached is not of human origin (Galatians 1:11) .” So Paul specifically states that he got it from no human person on earth but rather revelation and scripture. He is very persistent that he got his information from scripture which Joe totally disregards.
