Cindy Jacobs: "Do you think our poverty is gonna make a Jew jealous?"
How to convert Jews... Be Rich
Cindy Jacobs is the founder and president of an international missionary group that travels around the world spreading Christianity to those that don't have it. At a church in New Jersey, she espoused the idea that Jews will convert if Christians become rich enough. She backs this up with some scripture too.
If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,
She explains that this verse means that Jews are the same as Christians. Christians have Christ that empowers them to do good things, though. To me that seems to say that Jews aren't called to do good things but that they also can't do good things. Maybe I'm reading into it a little bit but still it boils down to "Jews can't do good things because they don't have Christ inside them." They, being the Cindy Jacobs type of Christians, characterize all people of different beliefs as being that way so it's not just Jews. Then there is this nugget of gold at 1:18 :
That it's going to make them jealous. The wealth and the riches that we're able to obtain is going to make them jealous. Do you think our poverty is going to make a Jew jealous? Come off it.
That's just straight up racist, right there. It plays into the Jewish stereotype that all they care about is money. The money will convert them over to Christ. You know the guy that had this lovely line in the Bible.
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
She ends it with "Obedience to god brings blessing," which many Christians would argue that it's not monetary blessing that god is talking about considering all the negative connotations given to worldly possessions and wealth in the Bible.
